It’s December the 28th, and a new year is just coming up, and a lot of people are thinking about what do I want to achieve next year so they can set their resolutions. And their resolutions could be, I want to be skinnier, I want to be sexier, I want to earn more money, I want to go on a vacation. Basically they would be setting their goals, and a lot of people are not going to achieve their goals, especially their money goals, and the question is, why not?

 

 

If you’re a salesperson, money is incredibly important, because you have to ask people for money when you sell them something. You have to ask your boss for a raise. So your beleifs around money have a direct impact on how well we do financially as a salesperson. So, the question is, how can you uncover your beliefs about money? You’ve got positive ones, ones that support you, that’s awesome, you’d want to strengthen those. But if you have negative beliefs lying in your unconscious, how do you uncover them? Because they’re holding you hostage. You want to try and get better and better as much as you can, and you’re trying as hard as you can but there’s another part of you stopping you, and there’s this fight going on that stops you from achieving the results you want.

But here’s a way you can uncover your beliefs around money. What I do it is I show people this, it’s a $20 bill, and that’s the largest bill I happen to have in my wallet, and I want you to go into your wallet and find the largest bill that you can. If you got a 100 hidden away in some secret compartment, bring it out. This is what it was put in there for, an emergency, and this is an emergency, because you need to uncover what your beliefs are around money. So what I want you do is, I want you to hold the denomination like this, and I want you to take a deep breath in, hold it for a moment. That allows you to quiet your mind so you can pay attention to any thoughts, feelings, or sensations that come up when we do this exercise. I want you to hold your money, and at the count of three, I’m going to ask you to rip the money in half. And when I do that, I want you to pay attention to what you felt inside. All right, here we go. Take a deep breath in, let it out. One. Two. Three. So, this is what I get. Some people go, “Oh my god, I had no idea I had the power to do that.” It’s like money is like a living being, that they conquered somehow. That ain’t the case, that they’ve got beliefs and hang-ups around money. Other people go, “I didn’t rip it up. I couldn’t do it. It’s wrong. Money is that important.” That also indicates some beliefs around money. Some people have a reaction that’s quite different. So that gives you a clue. If you look at the reaction that you have when you rip that money up, that will give you an idea of the baggage that you’re holding inside here that stops you from being an exceptional salesperson.
